Destiny Child Gospel Talent Hunt Auditions Kick Off in Abuja [Photos]

The second season of the  Kicked off last week in Abuja.  The auditions moved to Markurdi on Sunday (18th August) and were concluded Monday (19th August).

Here are photos from the auditions in Abuja alongside a diary the DCGTH team have kept so far.

DAY ONE

Bright and early, despite the rainy and cold weather, a lot of people, young and old, turned out to begin a  journey in search of greatness, taking those first steps in the nationwide search for the Destiny Child who will stand above the multitude and against all odds will arise to proclaim the gospel of Jesus…. that one who attains the right to be crowned the destiny child.

It was a different ball game as U-cheena, Solomon Lange and Asu – Ekiye our  judges brought their ‘A-game, they merged to become one decision making body. Day one (1) was fun but, day two started with some surprises, with 67 people, who registered at the venue with complaints as to why they could n’t make it on day one.

ABUJA AUDITION DAY 2

The expectation from the judges rose as survivors of the day 1 screening where expected to be on top of their game with strong delivery, vocal quality and versatility. The YES and NO were the fears of all contestants as each contestant was expected to get 3 YES(s) to qualify to the next stage.

The anxiety  was intensified for those who could go on to the third round, the sadness and pain got worse for those who this stage would mark the end of their journey in this first edition. With green cards giving way to white tags and fierce competition ahead, the judges had streamlined the contestants from 75 to 50 wonderful gospel voices that will ultimately compete for the final two (2) spots, to represent the Abuja zone in the national competition.

The process lasted for hours and finally the top 5 emerged. After minutes of brainstorming, the judges selected the final two (2). It was an all-male affair as 2 men were finally selected . Congratulations to the selected contestants in Abuja.

London Police Officers Dancing at the Notting Hill Carnival 2013

Police officers showed off their "dance moves" in front of cheering crowds at Notting Hill Carnival, London. Dozens of revellers formed a circle around them while the three policemen - dressed in police jackets and uniform - had a dance off, grinding and getting down, before forming a line on the floor and doing a rowing boat action.

They seemed to be relishing the attention as crowds cheered and screamed as they danced. The identity of the officers is not known but police officer PC Armstrong posted a link to the video on twitter with the caption "good community relations in my opinion". 

A police spokesman declined to comment but said: "I don't think this is a problem if officers are getting in with the crowd".

Others include Jagz Nation’s Jesse Jagz, EME’s Shaydee, Bento Recordz Morell and Project Fame 2012 winner Ayoola.

US Changes Visa Application Procedures Effect September 1, 2013

Effective September 1, 2013, the DS-260 Immigrant Visa Electronic Application and the DS-261 (Choice of Address and Agent) will replace the paper-based DS-230 Application for Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration (parts I and II) and the DS-3032 (Choice of Address and Agent).

Beneficiaries submitting new cases that arrive at the National Visa Center (NVC) from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) on or after September 1 will be instructed to complete the DS-260/261 in lieu of the DS-230/3032. Please see http://www.travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_5164.html for more information.

Immigrant visas entitle the recipient to permanent resident status in the United States. “Green Card” holders may live and work there, and eventually become naturalized if they so desire.

Most immigration petitions are initiated by a close relative or an employer in the United States. The petition is filed with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. All final interviews and approvals are done at the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos. After initial approval, applicants will be notified by the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos about documentation requirements and how to schedule the final interview. Required medical examinations for immigrant visas are conducted only in Lagos and only by doctors certified by the U.S. Consulate General.

Certain categories of immigrant visas are numerically controlled. This may necessitate a waiting period before the application can be further processed. Petitioners should anticipate a delay of up to approximately six months to complete the procedure and be scheduled for a final interview.

Please note that the embassy do not answer inquiries about visa cases in person.  American citizens with visa inquiries or Legal Permanent Residents requiring assistance with their travel documents should direct their inquiries to LagosIV@state.gov.  Most issues will be handled via e-mail; boarding foil requests, Returning Resident applicants, and other cases as necessary will be handled by appointment only.

The fee for an immigrant visa is $230, payable in cash in U.S. dollars or Naira equivalent. The fee for K1/K3 visas is $240 (please refer to K1/K3 visa instructions for more details). They do not accept checks or credit cards.

Additionally, if you receive an immigrant visa on or after February 1, 2013, and plan to apply for Lawful Permanent Residence, you will need to pay a new $165 fee to USCIS.  The fee must be paid online after the visa packet is received from the consulate and prior to traveling to the U.S.  For additional information, see the USCIS Immigrant Fee webpage.

The 2013 edition of the Nigerian Corner at the Notting Hill Carnival lived up to the reputation of being the largest gathering of Nigerians in the United Kingdom.
